Anne Hathaway expressed interest in reprising her role as Catwoman in a spinoff film during an early-September interview with Variety.
Hathaway was promoting her upcoming sci-fi thriller "Colossal" when she was asked about playing the role again.
“I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her,” she said. “I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe, and it would be fun to take a trip back.”
Hathaway was also asked whether she feels possessive of the character, given the transformation of the DC Cinematic Universe.
“I don’t think you can,” the actress said. “It sort of goes with the territory when you accept it and receive it from the last Catwoman. I was shown such generosity from Halle [Berry] and from Michelle [Pfeiffer], and so I would do that the next time as well.”
The idea of Hathaway reprising her role as Catwoman in upcoming DC films has received mixed reactions from fans.
“I would love to see her reprise her role as catwoman (in a new costume design or something), or even just play a new character,” one ScreenRant reader commented. "I could easily see her as Vicki Vale, Poison Ivy (wig/hair dye, etc), or like an older batgirl (probs not barbara though)."
“As much as I enjoyed her as Catwoman, we’re in a whole other Batman universe now, so I think the part (like all the others) should go to someone new,” another wrote. "Wish Angelina Jolie were twenty years younger cuz I think she would have been terrific."
The DC Universe includes such films as the recently released "Suicide Squad" and the upcoming "Wonder Woman," "Justice League," "Aquaman" and a solo Batman film, which currently has no release date, according to ScreenRant.
